JOBS
Synthetic Chemist
Reporting to Research Fellow in the Research and Advanced Development Department, this individual will be responsible for synthesis of novel organic molecules, pigments, and custom materials for use in electrophoretic displays.
Job Responsibilities
Design and synthesize new materials with unique chemical, optical and electrical properties
Work in a collaborative environment with materials scientists and engineers to optimize system performance of novel displays
Plan, schedule and execute experiments
Analyze, present and document results
Remain current on the latest developments in synthetic chemistry
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 0 - 8 years of experience
Demonstrated ability to design and execute syntheses of small molecules and/or polymeric materials with tailored physical and chemical properties
Familiarity with standard analytical and purification techniques
Familiarity with chemical scale-up constraints and ability to design scalable syntheses
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment under minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong sense of urgency and a results-oriented style
Sound analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong problem solving skills
Creativity to invent and create intellectual property
Demonstrated ability to contribute in a cross-functional team environment
Display Electro-Optical Engineer / Scientist
E Ink provides the exciting and enabling “electronic paper” display technology used by eReaders throughout the world to provide a low-power, paper-like display. We are seeking a creative and results-focused individual to help us grow the potential of this technology. This position will invent new ways to control electronic paper matched with the application-specific environment. You will create and follow your own ideas as well as work within a dynamic and collaborative team environment. You will interact with external partners to define and collaborate on new display architectures and develop technical strategies for commercialization. You will design, execute, and analyze experiments – in a culture of open review and critical discussion. E Ink maintains a lean team where each member has strong visibility and responsibility to meet company goals.
Job Responsibilities
Design new display algorithms for novel device applications
Develop technical strategies for commercialization of display algorithms
Design and execute electro-optical experiments to characterize display performance
Perform statistical analysis and build mathematical models to understand electro-optical phenomena and to study behavior of display materials
Investigate root causes using data mining and full systems analysis
Develop plans to achieve technical goals and to align them with corporate priorities
Create and document intellectual property
Qualifications
M.S. degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or related field plus four to nine years of industrial experience, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or related field plus two or more years of industrial experience
Experience analyzing complex systems using advanced mathematical methods for solving practical problems
Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams
Programming experience required: proficiency with Matlab and C/C++ beneficial
Experience with electronic devices and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators
Self-directed, motivated, and hands-on personality
Excellent troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, and strategic development skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
